December Workshop Sketches of Students
Okay last week was Thanks giving, and there's a lot to be thankful to God for. Thanks also to Jimmy & Kienn for the fabulous feast you gave our family! We were really full after wards, let me remind ourselves: HUGE Turkey, Prime Ribs, Roast Lamb, Baked Garlic Prawns, Apple & Prawn Salad (my fav), Soup, Pasta, Mashed Potatoes, Fried Pumpkin, and more...
However, the day after my thanksgiving, all four of my wisdom teeth had to come out and "OUCH!" would simply be an understatement, to say the least... I was in AGONY for the following days after!
Anyways, here's a few sketches I did in tonight's workshop. Ten minutes each.
Sketch One.
Sketch Two.
Sketch Three.

Despereaux Trailer 2
Here's some screen grabs highlighting some of the work I did. Most things modeling with crowds I had my claws on together with the talented Armando Sepulveda (now at Dreamworks Animation).
Welcome to the USA, bay area my friend.
From the Human 'Dor' Crowds: Bodies, Clothing, Heads, Accessories and Hats to Mouse crowds and Head gear for the Rats. Mostly building the base body types and clothing variants to where many more characters were later produced.

November Workshop Sketches of Students
Great News: Just got home and my wife told me that she received an e-mail from our attorney that my "Green card" had been approved! Yippeeee.......
This week's sketches.
We had a new model called Danni, and she has this lovely fine art-esque face. It's a missed opportunity that I didn't sketch her, but I thought I'd stick with my promise to myself to sketch more students!
Leon (below) from Korea, has this wonderfully wild hair and pony-tail with red highlights (not captured)!
The student below has this wonderfully long hair.
Enjoy!

November Workshop Sketches of Students
Today I subbed a class.
You know every once and a while you have one of those days where you just don't really get into what you are drawing or you're just not digging it! Well today was one of those... I just wasn't in the zone.... but here they are. Seriously, I think I took ages on each one, probably about 20mins on the first one.... it seemed like forever! Much happier with last Tuesday's sketches.
This one I spent ages on the mass of the tote bag, handbag, pencil case by her side.
This one I just didn't get a handle on the hair and got thrown off! Over 10 mins.
This one.... ate my porridge! About 10 mins.
I just thought I'd mention it here as well. There was this one female student who I thought did Ballet just by the way she stood most of the time, but when asked... she used to do gymnastics. Well the point is I really wanted to capture her in a sketch.... but there was just no place comfortable for me to draw without probably making her feel uncomfortable! Well my other point is I think I will see if in the future I can go to a ballet class to do some sketching!

November Workshop Sketches of Students
Thanks to Jenny and Natasha for being great models. It was really pleasing to draw more students at my Tuesday workshop. It's encouraging to see them hardworking and brings back the memories of myself as a student too! I think I will try to draw more students each time.
I really love the subtle and yet elegant white top Jenny was wearing with the pleated edges on the seams of her back. She had this really pure and calm poise about her when sketching. About 10 mins.
Here's another example from our fashion students with cool gear! I love the way Natasha was wearing her hat and that pouch bag (sorry, I don't know what to call it) design was cool too! I think this was about 15mins, I know I ran into the models' second 10 minute pose, since I wanted to catch more of her stripes on her top!
I actually hope Jenny and Natasha like these sketches!

Tales of Despereaux 2008
Tales of Despereaux, based on the popular Children's book by Kate Dicamillo. At a cinema near you this Christmas!
This was the last feature project I worked on before coming back to the US. What a talented team of people I worked with there at Framestore Animation, London (UK). I cannot even begin to describe how much I will miss everyone there. I won't go into detail what I did there, except I was character modeller on the team and on occassions helping out with the sets and props too.
Here's some still eye candy pulled from the trailer!

Love and Hate Relationship... Digital Painting!
Here's a quickish photoshop painting, copied from one of Master Wu Zhaoming's paintings! I thought I'd try and see how well I can make it look painterly on a monitor screen...
A character doodle... I sometimes like to experiment for whatever the reason, and to me he's a wip, forever incomplete..... whichever you prefer!

Summer movie sketches, June '08
I did these sketches over the summer just to keep myself upto speed and not for anything in particular. I'd usually just pick up a Blu-Ray box and sketch the tiny avatar on the spine side, or went and played back a trailer for an upcoming movie and sketched some scenes.
It was more about speed and translation to like a 'storyboard box' and wanted to keep that pencil moving!
From a movie somewhere, Kung Fu Hustle and Casino Royale.
The Hulk.

October Workshop Sketches of Students
Since we had the same models for the last few weeks, I thought I'd turn to the students for some fun! All about 10mins based on the models posing! Lizi was the second student to ask me to give her help on drawing feet that night... do you spot a trend emerging?
I really liked observing these two students draw, I just kinda liked their style in general. (Oh, I guess I didn't capture it... hahaha)
